Creating this color grading is complicated, too complicated to go into in the space I have here. In fact, as you might imagine, books have been written about the topic. Color invokes mood, emotion, interest or revulsion. Color modifies perception itself and then tempers and directs it. Color speaks a powerful but silent language that nudges your thoughts in directions they might not have otherwise gone.
